What makes this launch particularly interesting is that Sarasota County — the county that Venice is in — is also a SeeClickFix partner. SeeClickFix’s technology was built for overlapping jurisdictions, so citizens can report issues to the city and county on the same app. Previously, emails, phone calls and walk-ins came into the city to at least a half-dozen people throughout City Hall. Issues were being catalogued and assigned via email, sometimes to the wrong department or even the wrong jurisdiction (like the city when the issue is really in unincorporated Sarasota County). Venice needed a better way of assigning citizens’ concerns and complaints that was a more true single point-of-contact.
